Halls Crossing is located on the eastern side of the lake at approximately mid-lake and is across the lake from Bullfrog. Historically, Halls Crossing was a ferry crossing opened in 1881, by Charles Hall, the Mormon pioneer who had built the ferry at Hole-in-the-Rock for the 1879-80 party.
Halls Crossing was much more accessible than Hole-in-the-Rock,
but the ferry was still somewhat crude. It was only a rough boat 30 feet (9.1 meters) long that was towed upstream and then floated downstream diagonally with the current to reach the opposite shore. Hall went out of business in 1884, but gold operations a few years later sparked renewed interest in the site.
